The Core Problem: Wood Moves, Paint Doesn't
Wood is hygroscopic — it absorbs and releases moisture with the seasons, swelling and shrinking as it does. Paint film is not hygroscopic in the same way; it's a relatively rigid membrane sitting on top of a material that's constantly expanding and contracting underneath it.
